is how 400 plus body shops owners in Maricopa County (many
are members of the ACCA (AZ Collision Craftsman Assoc.)

Heres my complaint:
I have been a customer of American
Family for better than 10 years. They have my cars, my trucks,
my houses, almost everything. I have no idea what our loss
rations have been, that has never been shared with me. But
I do know this. I work as an automotive consultant for State
Farm, Farmers, Liberty Mutual and many, many others. I handle
25-30 cases a year and for the last 11 years. I have never
seen other adjusters treat people like American Family's adjusters
treat their customers. Even in a recent Arizona trade magazine,
American Familys customer service was questioned.
Someone broke into my truck and
stole some stuff. The adjuster lady called me and within 2
minutes I hung up on her. She asked me why my briefcase
was left in my truck. She wanted to know if the drill was
mine. She spoke to me like a child. She was rude, short and
asked questions that only had one purpose and that was to
limit their loss. I was treated like a suspect, not a customer.
My best interests were never on her mind, she wanted nothing
more than to reduce my claim, reduce their loss and ask me
questions that had no bearing on this issue. If she thought
she would make me feel stupid or was trying to make me feel
responsible so she could cut my loss, she was mistaken.
And you know what? It really
makes no difference if that is what she was trying to do,
because THAT IS WHAT IT FELT LIKE, THAT"S WHAT IT SOUNDED
LIKE TO ME.
I buy insurance from American
Family because I know, like everyone knows, that we are going
to make mistakes. I pay every month and when we have a loss,
I want them to reimburse me for it. Im not going to
let adjuster run me through a ringer when we have a loss.
One last thing. When my daughter
Alison backed into the Honda that was driven by a pregnant
lady, American Family "MY INSURANCE COMPANY"
bent over backwards to be nice and gave them the world. Those
folks told us how nice American Family treated them. So one
would ask, why treat non customers so well and treat
your insured so poorly? The answer is clear, one will probably
sue them and one won't.
That old adage is true. You will
never know how good your insurance company is until you have
a claim.
By the way, Farm Bureau is one
of the best insurance companies when it comes to handling
their Customers. They may not be high on the body shop list,
but they are high on mine.
