Brake
Parts
You
cant hardly go wrong when picking brake shoes, pads
and hardware as long as you pick a name brand. Raybestos,
Wagner and Bendix all make good brake parts.
And the brake shoes and pads you get from the dealer are
top quality as well. What you have to avoid is brake
shoes or pads in a plain white box with no name attached.
Softer pads never squeak, wear out a little
quicker and dirty up the front wheels a little more than others.
Rock hard pads will wear forever, never dirty up the front
wheels but may sometimes squeak. There are new ways
to control squealing invented everyday and some of the newer
ideas include putting some of the brake material on the BACK
of the pad (as well as on the front) is to eliminate brake
pad vibration which causes brake squeal.
Brake
squeal is caused by the disc pads vibrating and installing
hardware kits when replacing or servicing the brakes will
help eliminate most squeals. In addition to machining
the rotors, installing new hardware, a good technician will
read the old disc brake pads and know if everything is okay.
If the inside pad is worn more than the outside one, the caliper
needs to be serviced because it's hanging up. If the
outside pad is worn more than the inside one, the mounting
hardware is causing the caliper to hang up. This repair
should include the replacement of the mounting hardware.
Otherwise, if there isn't a symptom, then don't authorize
a repair.
